How is Braving Therapy different?
Traditional talk therapy offers us insight into the causes of our feelings, but it may not necessarily help us feel better – it may not go far enough. You may know that you are reacting; however, you may not be able to stop your response. In addition to talk therapy, we utilize a combination of mind, body, and relational techniques to release your old unconscious stress patterns, allowing you to enjoy the present moment and face future challenges from a calmer, more connected place.
We often work with people who have already done some personal growth work, talk therapy, and/or counselling, but may still need to release their old patterns from the past.
Who am I?
On paper, by my late 30's, it looked like my life was perfect; but inside I felt empty, disconnected, and unworthy. My "wake-up call" came following a series of unfortunate events, leaving me no longer coping in my day-to-day life. I realized I could either pretend to be okay and silently suffer for my remaining years or try braving therapy to see if there was a way to process what happened to me. Healing has been a journey of learning how to come out of dysregulation and tolerate the discomfort of being in the present moment. It involved releasing parts of myself that were stuck in the past, reorienting to my current lived experience, and developing self-compassion.
My education includes an Honours degree in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario (Richard Ivey School of Business)and a Master’s degree in Psychology. I am a Clinical Psychologist and Registered Psychotherapist, and a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professions and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. I have completed a number of training programs, including Deep Brain Reorienting, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization), Ego State Therapy, Structural Dissociation Work, Internal Family Systems, Childhood Emotional Neglect, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Finding Solid Ground, and I am certified in Brené Brown’s work, “Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly and Rising Strong.”
